Medical English
This module focuses on the reading comprehension skills, and the academic/scientific writing skills. Students will be able to participate in reading and writing assignments limited to familiar medical topics academically and professionally. This includes describing special events and situations, handling factual material on medical topics, and meeting primary writing needs. The course also covers medical terminology; practice in practical vocabulary related to your field of study. This highly interactive, specialist course, aims to provide students with a sufficient level of Medical English terminology to help develop the English language skills required for students at the very beginning of their study.
After completing this module, students demonstrate English language proficiency sufficient to:
- Read and comprehend medical text, patients’ records, doctors’ instructions and any other written communications utilized in professional contexts.
- Use expressions for collecting demographic data and use questions to collect current and past health‐illness data.
- Give communicative response to patient’s complaint and ask the dimensions of symptoms.
- Use expressions for assessment of patient conditions, nursing diagnosis and monitoring of therapies.
- Communicate about implementation of checking vital signs and give instructions during implementation of checking vital sign
- Give instructions and suggestions according to the patient’s health problem and deliver a therapeutic communication.
- Write effectively professional nursing reports, fill-in patient records and issue notes for admission, discharge and referral of patients.
